When finally taking the time to sit down and review the Twitter Files revelations, my reaction was not, in the least, shocked. Most people who have anti-establishment views, including me, knew in our hearts that we were "shadow-banned," and others blocked from the site entirely. Particularly during the COVID-19 crisis, anyone asking questions was warned and placed in "Twitter Jail" for at least 12 hours. I decided right there and then, after 24 hours of jail time, that it wasn't worth it to 'tweet' on the subject.
I began to understand the extent of the censorship when I posted a BLOG on Julian Assange and the FIVE-EYES-NETWORK of spook organizations who were calling all the shots regarding the publisher. When I posted the piece, it received a 'warning' from Twitter that it could contain disinformation. On the one hand, I was furious because it contained nothing but facts and few opinions. On the other hand, I felt to be 'special' because I was targeted for telling the truth. A few weeks later, when the piece was buried, the warning from Twitter was lifted. At this time, I felt the utter viciousness of Twitter censorship...these people mean business!
Around this time, Glen Greenwald left the news site he co-founded, The Intercept, over the publication of a story he wanted to tell. This was the 'Hunter Laptop" story. I don't know the specifics, though Greenwald left in protest because the editorial board refused to publish the story. Indeed, the 2020 presidential election was in full swing. The 'laptop' story could well damage the Biden campaign because it revealed financial shenanigans with Ukraine and China involving his son, Hunter Biden.
Like Pavlov's dog, the establishment government rang its media bell, and the corporate media began salivating with lies. This story is Russian disinformation to sway the 2020 election. Russia. Russia. Russia. (That's all they got). The New York Post, one of the oldest newspapers in the United States, was banned from posting the 'laptop story' on Twitter. I believe the news organization was in Twitter jail for a week. A short time later, Greenwald and the Post were vindicated because the laptop was verified as legitimate.
What happened?
We now know from the Twitter Files that the suppression and lies concerning the laptop were a concerted effort between the security state and twitter to quash this factual information. A conspiracy to influence the 2020 presidential election. Any journalist should have jumped on this story, shouting it from the rooftops. Though little fanfare it received, it was later buried, and the MSM news cycle moved on. What does this tell us?
The bottom line here, my take-away, is the US security state is meddling in America's domestic politics.
The FBI's mandate is to keep us safe from enemies domestically. The CIA's mandate is to protect us from foreign enemies - the CIA has zero jurisdiction on American soil. Yet, as the Twitter Files have revealed, their fiddling with single American accounts and intimidating the Twitter Staff to follow their order on who should be banned from the website. It gets worse.
A few powerful politicians sent Twitter emails to ban certain accounts. Upon investigation by the Twitter staff, these accounts did not violate their Terms of Service. When Twitter did not comply, they were threatened and intimidated. (I will not mention the politicians) However, what this reveals is a violation of the constitution of the US. For certain, this is nothing less than mafia-style authoritarianism.
Some of us are painfully aware of the corruption in the American government. (Many governments). Most people are also aware of the corporate media and their relentless propaganda. The Twitter Files substantiate this fact.
I recommend reading these files through the exceptional journalism of those reporting this corruption.
As a card-carrying-cynic, nothing will change as a result of these revelations. Like the Snowden revelations, surveillance only broadened, and our pay-for-play politicians and an unaware public will forget. One of the great American writers of the 20th century once said.
We are the United States of Amnesia.
